Shoes, glorious shoes!

This post was written by Lindy Shopper.

I know the blog has been heavy with shoes from eBay as of late, but I can’t resist posting all these Remix Shoes and Aris Allens. For the price of a new pair of shoes, I could have two or three pairs (and given the price of Remix shoes, three or four pairs) for the price of one. Here’s this week’s lot of goodies (I’m showing the Remix photo instead of the seller’s photo so you can see more of the detail on the shoes):

Remix Mary Jane wedge in red, size 9 - starting price $19.99!
Remix Greta wedge in dark green, size 6
Remix Picasso wedge in black, size 10
Remix Gloria wedge in black and white, size 8 or 7

One, two, button your shoe…

Hazelwood Dress

You know you’ve looked at the Remix Vintage Shoes website too many times when you spot a cute ensemble and know exactly which pair of Remix shoes you’d pair with it. This time, I’ve spotted a dress that would look good with two styles – this brown and tan/gray “Hazelwood” dress from ModCloth may be vintage-inspired, but the clean lines on the dress also look very modern to me. This could also be the jump start for your Fall dance and/or work wardrobe, no?

However, without great accessories, this dress falls short of stellar. Two pairs of Remix Vintage Shoes came to mind: depending on how well the color blends, both the “Beverly” and the “Zurich” look like they would pair well with the Hazelwood dress. Now that I have this pairing together, I’m thinking maybe one of the brown on brown combos would look good as well…so many shoes, so little disposable income. 😉

This particular pair of dress sneaker is said to have been worn three times.

Breathable Leather Shoes: Act Quickly!

This post was written by Lindy Dandy.

I found a vintage pair of Allen Edmonds Strawfuts on sale on eBay, but you’ll have to act quickly if you want them.

Why would you want them?  These black wingtips are breathable because a large part of the upper is made with nylon mesh.  It’s a simple solution to overheating shoes that you don’t see in modern shoes.

Honestly, if these were half a size larger, I would buy them myself.

The good news is that Allen Edmonds may bring the Strawfut back for the Spring/Summer 2011 season.  If that’s true, I’ll be buying a couple pairs in different colors!

Happy hunting!

The J. Peterman Company

This post was written by Lindy Shopper.

By way of Lindy Dandy, today’s featured retailer is the J. Peterman Company. Although I can’t help thinking of Seinfeld when I see this name, the J. Peterman Company is anything but a parody, offering “high-quality men’s, women’s, home and one-of-a-kind merchandise,” “traveling the world to find uncommonly good stuff.” Sounds like a fantastic job, right? Where does Lindy Shopper sign up?

There are definitely a lot of items with a nod to vintage in the catalog, made to look even more so with the help of the catalog’s hand-drawn illustrations of the clothing (which, themselves, look like a nod to vintage pattern drawings in the way that they are shaded). I’m trying to decide if the hand-drawn illustrations of the clothes are helpful or not. Generally, clothes are modeled by someone who is tall and rail thin, so it’s hard to tell how it will fit in that instance as well. In any case, the clothes are beautifully sketched and it is a novel way to present them.

I am particularly in love with the 1947 plaid dress and the seersucker sailor pants for women and their men’s pants and striped shirts.

Groupon for Shabby Apple Today!

This post was written by Lindy Shopper.

Today’s Groupon for the Washington, D.C.-Montgomery County area is for Shabby Apple, which I blogged about earlier this month – how serendipitous! $40 gets you $100 worth of Shabby Apple’s lovely, vintage-inspired clothing. You don’t have to live in the D.C. area to partake, as the discount is for shopping at the Shabby Apple website. Thanks to Allyson for posting the Groupon to Lindy Shopper and for sharing this amazing discount!

Joseph Abboud Dress Oxfords

This post was written by Lindy Shopper.

As mentioned in my last post, I went to an outdoor wedding in June, with the oppressive North Carolina humidity and heat in full effect. A gentleman at the wedding, serving as both emcee for the wedding, friend of the family, and fashion inspiration for all of the aspiring Southern gentlemen present, was wearing a tan seersucker suit, a glorious coral dress shirt, a candy colored necktie, a coral pocket square, and a most amazing pair of tan linen and brown leather shoes that perfectly complimented the ensemble. It was great to see a variation on the traditional white bucks. The gentleman said the shoes were Joseph Abboud for Florsheim (if I remember correctly), purchased a few years ago. I almost asked if I could photograph his outfit, but decided that would be too creepy, under the circumstances.

I searched for these shoes online, wanting to find these stylish shoes that looked like they would be great for dancing, but came up empty handed. I’ve had searches running for these shoes on eBay and nothing close to these shoes has come up. I will continue my mission for these shoes, but in the interim…

…eBay searches have yielded another Joseph Abboud linen and leather combo, pictured here. They are more casual than the other pair I’m looking for, but perhaps more functional for dancers who aren’t the seersucker suit wearing types?

They just aren’t as great as the ones worn by the Southern gent. *sigh* I will keep looking.

City Sneaks at Payless

This post was written by Lindy Shopper.

Sometimes cheap shoe makers cut corners that make shoes better for dancing. Case in point, Payless makes a line of shoes called City Sneaks that have a partial rubber, partial slide-friendly material on the sole, mostly in the ball of the foot area where you would need some extra love for spins. The damage is $5.00 and $17.00 for a pair of danceable shoes!

Special thanks to Julie for redirecting me to the product – I blogged about these shoes in my Atomic Ballroom post on shoes, but couldn’t find the shoes online because they don’t really advertise or photograph the sole. Thanks Julie!

Here’s what I like:
